Utility cycling in the snow, Utrecht (Netherlands)

On this sunny Monday afternoon in December 2010 the roads were covered with heavy snow. But people in the Netherlands keep on using their bicycles as much as possible. Although there are fewer cyclists because of the snow, still many of the Dutch prefer to take their bike for their usual journeys even in these conditions.
If cycling is for utility reasons you are less likely to change your behavior because of the weather.

Normally the protected cycle paths are well cleared of snow. But this time only a few main routes were fully clear of snow and ice. That was also the case for the car lanes. The city seemed taken by surprise by the very early Winter.
