King’s Day 2018

The Dutch celebrated their national holiday Koningsdag (or King’s Day) on the 27th of April. The weather was good, the parties were great, and everybody went on a bicycle!

Celebrating King’s Day is wearing something orange and hopping on your bicycle to go to the city.
The orange looks very cheerful and so do the flags that a lot of people put out.
The free markets are a tradition. Everybody is allowed to sell stuff from the attic in the streets.
Streets are filled with people and music.
There was an incredibly long line for the underground bicycle parking garage in ʼs-Hertogenbosch. You had to wait until someone left before a new person was allowed to enter.

  1. Reblogged this on Becancaneries and commented:
    Si le petit film pouvait être vu par les édiles de la mégalopopole d’Orléans. Il y a de visible :
    – des bandes cyclables larges ;
    – des piétons à leur place sur des trottoirs réservés ;
    – des intersections de qualité ;
    – une rampe pour les vélo (quartier Coligny, gare, pont de l’Europe…) ;
    – des gens heureux sans avoir payé pour circuler à vélo.
